Based on its belief in the role of students' organizations and the need for students to contribute to the management of their affairs, the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies encourages participation in the Student Council as a representative structure for students with various specialties aimed at enriching the student's experience at the Institute.

The Student Council is an elected executive student body that is established on a student initiative (through the Institute's General Student Assembly) in coordination with the Student Services Department. Students who run for positions within the Student Council must have good academic standing, and their records be free of any penalties or warnings.

The Students' Council aims to:

Represent students in the Institute's various committees within the framework of the Institute's participatory governance.

Raise students' demands and opinions in a responsible and constructive manner.

Organize students' events in coordination with the Student Services Department.

Contribute to stimulating the spirit of volunteer work among students.

Take part in spreading positive academic and university behaviors.

The Institute's policies and administrative decisions are governed by the Students' Council and are in turn consistent with the laws of the State of Qatar.

The various departments of the Institute have the right to invite the elected Students' Council to attend its meetings or committee meetings, in coordination with the Student Services Department.

Since 2019, the list system has been adopted in the Student Council elections annually, which begins with the formation of an independent election committee composed of a number of students of the DI. Under the supervision of the Student Services Department, they ensure the development of a road map for the elections, starting with the process of forming lists, passing through organizing a debate between the candidate lists, and ending with Voting and announcing the results.​
