Alaa ElgibaliDirector Professor of Linguisticsalaa.elgibali@dohainstitute.edu.qa<p><span style="line-height:1.6;text-align:justify;">A</span><span style="line-height:1.6;text-align:justify;">laa Elgibali is professor of linguistics and director of the Language Center at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies.  </span><span style="line-height:1.6;text-align:justify;">He received a B.A. in English language and literature from Ain-Shams University, an M.A. in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language from the American University in Cairo, and a doctorate in theoretical linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">Elgibali comes to the DI from the University of Maryland where he was a tenured full professor and founding chair of the Arabic department and founding director of the Arabic Flagship programs.  He is also a senior advisor to a number of leading international educational organizations, including the American Councils for International Education, the World Languages Initiative, the National Foreign Language Center, and the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages.  Previously, he was a tenured full professor and director of the M.A. program in TAFL and executive director of the Center for Arabic Study Abroad at the American University in Cairo.
