THE DOHA INSTITUTE FOR GRADUATE STUDIES WELCOMES NEW PROFESSORS
On August 21, 2019, The Doha Institute's (DI) Department of Communications and External Relations organized an induction event for new faculty members. The DI's various schools and departments welcomed 15 new faculty members, all of whom have rich academic, research, and professional backgrounds and expertise. This event, an annual tradition of the DI, introduces professors to the DI's various services and facilities.

Opening the event, Dr. Yasir Suleiman, Acting DI Provost, welcomed the new professors and wished them success during their association with this distinguished academic institution. He invited them to contribute, together with their colleagues, to the DI's quest for excellence and leadership in education, underlining the important responsibility held by every member of the DI in their work with students from across the region.

The establishment of the DI as a Qatari institution serving Qatari society and Arab societies – stressed the Acting DI Provost – was to provide qualified cadres in fields of specialization that are on the wane across the Arab world and globally. The birth of the DI, he noted, sprang from the wish to compensate for a clear lack of interest in the disciplines of the social sciences and humanities in Arab countries and societies, especially in the Gulf region at postgraduate level. The goal of the DI, pointed the Provost, is to respond to the needs of Arab countries in their path toward development and renaissance, and to contribute to the development of their educational, research and service institutions. The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, he added, "is from Qatar for Qatar and from Qatar for the Arab world, and for what transcends geography and its human boundaries". He ended his speech by thanking all those who support the DI.

Next, Mr. Ali Kaabi, Director of Communications and External Relations at the DI, noted how this annual event provides new professors with the opportunity to get acquainted with the culture of the DI and with all aspects of its academic programs and academic life on campus. The event also offers comprehensive detailed information about the Institute and its facilities, programs and services and provides a thorough explanation about all major departments and the services offered by the Doha Institute.

The welcome day, which was also attended by faculty deans, professors and heads of departments, included a video presentation on Qatar and the Doha Institute produced by the Department of Communications and External Relations which was followed by speeches delivered by representatives of the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and the Doha Historical Dictionary of Arabic. The event came to a close with a question and answer session.

On August 21, 2019, The Doha Institute's (DI) Department of Communications and External Relations organized an induction event for new faculty members.8/20/2019 9:00:00 PM
