The Doha Institute Board of Trustees held its ninth meeting on Saturday 2 March 2018 headed by Dr. Azmi Bishara, Chair of the Board at the DI campus in Doha. The meeting was attended by H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, PhD, Vice Chair of the Board; and the board members: Dr. Ahmad Dallal; Dr. Laurie Brand; Dr. Dina Khoury; Dr. Ebrahim Moosa; Dr. Wail Benjelloun; Dr. Khalil Hindi and Dr. Ghanim Al-Najjar in addition to the two new members Dr. Aziz Al-Azmeh and Dr. Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad. The Chair of the Board, on behalf of the Board members welcomed their membership at the beginning of the meeting and emphasized the qualitative addition they would make to the work of the Board, given their previous experience in academia and university administration. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Yasir Suleiman Malley, Acting President of the DI.

Meetings of the board’s standing committees were held in the morning session, including the Academic Affairs Committee chaired by Dr. Dallal and the Financial Affairs and Planning Committee chaired by Dr. Benjelloun. Board members reviewed items on the agenda and the decisions and recommendations of the previous meeting. The Board discussed the recommendations of the Academic Affairs Committee regarding the program for the Master’s Degree in Human Rights and agreed to proceed with the finalization of the file to be approved by the Board of Trustees before being officially submitted to the Qatari Ministry of Education and Higher Education to give final approval and open the registration to start study at the beginning of academic year 2020/2021.

The Board also agreed that the DI administration should draft several policies relating to the doctoral program approved by the Board. The members discussed several issues related to academic affairs, including approving the proposal to appoint national academic competencies in the program of “research and teaching assistants” in preparation for their scholarship to complete doctoral study abroad. The Board also approved, on the recommendation of the Financial Affairs and Planning Committee, the estimated financial budget for the academic year 2019/2020.

During their meeting, Dr. Malley presented the DI progress report which focused on the most important issues and achievements since the last meeting. The next board meeting was scheduled for mid-October 2019 in Doha.
