The Doha Institute Board of Trustees (BoT) held its tenth meeting on Saturday October 12, 2019 in Doha. Headed by Dr. Azmi Bishara, Chair of the Board, the meeting was attended by His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, Vice Chair of the Board, and board members Dr. Ahmad Dallal, Dr. Ebrahim Moosa, Dr. Khalil Hindi, Dr. Dina Khoury, Dr. Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad, Dr. Aziz Al-Azmeh, Dr. Ghanim Al-Najjar, Dr. Laurie Brand and Dr. Wail Benjelloun as well as Dr. Yasir Suleiman Malley, Acting President of the DI.

Meetings of the BoT’s standing committees were held in the morning session, including the Academic Affairs Committee chaired by Dr. Dallal; the Financial Affairs and Planning Committee chaired by Dr. Benjelloun and the Financial and Administrative Audit Committee chaired by His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani.

During the meeting the board members reviewed the items on the agenda and discussed the progress on the recommendations agreed upon in the last meeting. The BoT standing committees chairs then submitted the committee recommendations for discussion and approval. The board members were then briefed on the final organizational chart of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI), whose restructuring and merging of the Psychology and Social Work Programs under the umbrella of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities was approved in the last meeting.

The BoT members also discussed some of the DI’s academic and policy frameworks and endorsed appointments of new faculty members for the positions of Professor and Associate Professor. Based on the recommendation of the Financial Affairs and Planning Committee, the Board also approved the detailed financial budget for the academic year 2019/2020.

Presented to the board was also Dr. Malley’s DI progress report, which focused on the most important issues and achievements since the last meeting, in addition to the performance appraisal questionnaire prepared for the faculty and administrative staff.

The next board meeting is scheduled for March 2020 in Doha.
