Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) held an online orientation day event to welcome the newly admitted seventh cohort of students for the academic year 2021 – 2022.
Dr. Abdelwahab El Affendi, DI Acting President, Ms. Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, the Executive Director of Administration and Finance Division, Dr. Ibrahim Freihat, Dean of Student Affairs, in addition to the deans of schools, head of programs and directors attended.
More than 200 new students participated in the event, in which they were introduced to DI schools and facilities, student services, course enrollment and registration methods, thus creating a comfortable environment for communication and interaction.
In his welcome speech, Dr. El Affendi said that the students possess enough talents and abilities to succeed because they have been carefully selected through strong competition. DI provides a supportive environment for education, including all teaching aids, distinguished professors who are keen on caring for students, and a diverse and cooperative student body, he explained.
Dr. Abdelwahab stressed the need for students to benefit from all the capabilities that DI provides them with, especially the library and information sources, the support and guidance provided by professors, and to familiarize themselves with all the Institute's policies due to their importance in determining their academic future.
DI acting president wished the students every success in this unique experience and call for a combination of serious ambition, interdependence and cooperation.
In this context, Ms. Al Misnad expressed her pride in the new students, wishing that the experience of studying at the Institute would be one of the outstanding experiences of their academic careers.
She pointed out that DI used to host the orientation day annually in campus, and due to the precautionary measures taken during the third phase of lifting restrictions as a result of the spread of Covid-19, DI organized a virtual orientation this year. Indicating that various DI departments strive to provide an appropriate environment that helps students to innovate and have academic excellence.
In turn, Dr. Ibrahim Freihat congratulated the enrolled students for reaching this stage, which is a major achievement, and the culmination of a long journey of hard work. These students proved that they are up to the challenge, and they have the right to be proud of what they have achieved and the fruits they have reaped, he added.
