On Thursday, May 12, 2022, The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies celebrated the graduation of the sixth cohort of master’s students in the presence and under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, a number of Their Excellencies and Ministers, the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees, the President of the Institute, Deans, faculty, and administrative staff, in addition to a majestic gathering of alumni’s families and guests. The ceremony, which was held in the Sports and Events Complex at Qatar University, witnessed the graduation of 216 students, including 144 from the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and 72 from the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy.

The ceremony began with the national anthem and verses from the Noble Qur’an, followed by a speech by the President of the institute, Dr. Abdul Wahab Al-Affandi, in which he said: “The graduation of this cohort coincided with the close end of the Corona pandemic, and the return to normal life, and with Qatar preparing for the big event, which is hosting the FIFA 2022 World Cup for the first time in our region. These are all good news, especially since the Institute, its students, and affiliates participate in supporting this great achievement, through individual volunteering and close institutional cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

Dr. Abdul-Wahhab Al-Affandi added in his speech that "in addition to the graduation of our two hundred and sixteen graduates today, nearly half of them are from Qatar, this year, the Institute, through the Center of Excellence for Training and Consultation, provided nearly 150 training courses for more than three thousand government and civil institutions employees, a large percentage of them are at the leadership level, and this is a contribution that we are proud of.”

The President of the institute pointed out that the institute witnessed an appreciable development during the period in which this sixth cohort has studied. Seven of the institute's programs have received accreditations from international institutions that are leaders in this field. The institute has been in the process of accrediting some programs from a reputable American institution which will make it second in the region, and the first in the Gulf region, to obtain this accreditation. There are seven programs in the process of submitting their completed files to the accreditation authorities in the coming weeks. He added that during this period the institute that passed the third stage of the completion of the international institutional accreditation has also completed the requirements of the fourth and final round of this process, and is now awaiting the field visit expected next August to issue these decisions. At this pace, we expect that the institute will complete all the required international accreditations within the next year, God willing.

Al-Affandi noted that the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies launched a doctoral program, as it is the last level in the structure of graduate studies, in addition to the launch of a post-doctoral fellowship, and the continuation of the research, teaching, and scholarship assistant program for Qatari graduates, in parallel with the Winter School for Foreign Researchers in the Middle East Studies. Let us not forget the organization of the Doctoral Students Conference in Western Universities by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in cooperation with the Institute which will contribute to creating a thriving scientific and research environment for the benefit of the Institute’s students and academic staff.

The ceremony witnessed the presentation of a video about the work of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, and a speech by graduates of the institute, delivered by Khaled Al-Zamat and Maryam Al-Safadi, in which they said: “We have come to this moment today to celebrate our achievement, with an Arab student body that was embraced by a promising Arab institution, which provided all its available services for us, and did not spare any effort to support us with research and knowledge. We celebrate ourselves today, apostles of science, builders and researchers, embodying what we have learned, each in his place”. They added that the diverse experiences that they lived in the Institute, and the research tools that developed the curricula of this stage of thinking tell us that our journey in this stage has come to an end, but It is only the beginning of a longer scientific journey that awaits us all on the path of humanity and honest, conscious knowledge that is devoted to its nation, and its countries.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, honored the graduates and handed them the graduation certificates. After that, group pictures of the graduates were taken with the ceremony’s sponsor, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Azmi Bishara, the Institute’s President, Dr. Abdul Wahab Al-Affandi, and the deans of the faculties.
