The Board of Trustees of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies held its sixth meeting on Sunday, October 15, 2017 on campus. The meeting was led by Dr. Azmi Bishara, Chair of the Board, and attended by its members: H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, PhD, Vice Chair of the Board; Dr. Ahmad Dallal; Dr. Taher Kanaan; Dr. Laurie Brand; Dr. Dina Khoury; Dr. Wail Benjelloun; and newest member Dr. Ebrahim Moosa, who joined the board following the joint decision taken at the previous meeting. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Yasir Suleiman Malley, Acting President of the DI.

 

The Board discussed the agenda items of this meeting, and reviewed the measures undertaken following decisions of their previous meeting. The chairs of the standing committees of the Board raised their recommendations from the committees’ meetings, which were held on Saturday October 14, 2017. The Academic Affairs Committee, chaired by Dr. Ahmad Dallal, met to review the latest Master's programs’ files, which were launched at the beginning of the current academic year after it was approved by the Board of Trustees in its last meeting. The Academic Affairs Committee also discussed updates on the “Academic Advising Policy”, and reviewed the report on the establishment of a PhD degree at the DI.

 

Additionally, the committee discussed the “Promotions Committee” report, and the recommendations of the DI Acting President to appoint the new deans of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SOSH) and the School of Psychology and Social Work (SOPSW), as well the appointment of the new full-time faculty members of the ranks of “Associate Professor and Professor”, for the approval of the Board of Trustees.

 

The Financial Affairs and Planning Committee, headed by Dr. Wail Benjelloun, also met to review the 2018 Financial Budget Estimate, and the amendments proposed to the DI “Procurement Policy”. The Financial and Administrative Audit Committee, chaired by H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al-Thani, PhD, and the Nominations Committee, headed by Dr. Azmi Bishara, also held their meetings on Saturday. Following discussion, the Board adopted the recommendations of its standing committees.

 

During the meeting, the members of the Board also listened to the Institute progress report, presented by Dr. Yasir Suleiman Malley, who also presented the objectives achieved over the previous two years, in line with the Institute's strategic plan. The next annual meeting of the DI Board of Trustees was scheduled to be held in Doha, March 2018.
