There
is a recent movement in the Arabic-speaking world to create an enduring legacy
of intellectual innovation and education within the Arab world. This conference aims to explore the
theoretical and pragmatic issues relevant to (1) promoting the Arabic language
as a tool of scientific inquiry, an official language in public discourse, and
a primary language for teaching and research, (2) establishing, maintaining,
and nurturing intellectual links and two-way dialogues between knowledge
production in Arabic and the international learning and research community, and
(3) affecting positively the status and quality of Arabic education
domestically, regionally, and internationally.
Themes: Role of language in knowledge
transfer and production, Interrelationship of language and thought, Enforcement
of language planning policies, Descriptive and analytical studies of native
language proficiencies, Academic and intellectual requirements of knowledge
processes, Academic language assessment tools, Realities of academic and
language training in Arab universities, Socio- and Psycholinguistic parameters
of knowledge, Role of heritage speakers, role of technology, and other themes
that are of relevance.
