On behalf of our faculty and staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the School of Psychology and Social Work at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. Established autumn 2017, this is the first and only school in the State of Qatar to offer a Master’s Degree in both Social Work and Psychology. It is my profound honor to serve as its first dean.

The School was founded to advance the welfare of individuals and communities through promoting social justice, alleviating societal problems, and understanding and enhancing the well-being of individuals in Qatar, the region, and the Arab World.

Our faculty and staff hail from excellent and diverse backgrounds in scholarship, teaching, and experience. They are committed to providing a world-class graduate level education to a select student body, providing advanced theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding in Psychology and Social Work, and training them to become professionals, researchers and community leaders. The School aims to provide students with strong research and practical skills that will allow them to better understand human behavior, make scholarly contributions to the field, and develop solutions to individual, societal, and organizational problems.

The School offers two master’s programs, Psychology and Social Work. This year, students admitted to the Psychology program are pursuing a specialization in Social Psychology while students in the Social Work program are pursuing a specialization in Community Development. In the following academic year (Fall 2018), two additional tracks will also be offered to the incoming cohort: Clinical Psychology and Clinical Social Work Practice.

We are fortunate and proud to be part of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, the aim of which is to foster the highest standards in graduate teaching and research in the humanities, social sciences, public administration, development economics, and behavioral sciences. The Doha Institute is wholly dedicated to graduate studies, rendering it unique among institutes of higher education in the Arab world.

I look forward meeting you all in person, listening to your ideas, and working together to move this School forward.

Once again, welcome and thank you for being part of our family.
