Abderrahim Benhadda

​​​Dr. Abderrahim Benhadda is Professor of Modern and Ottoman History and leads the History Program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies. Benhadda is former Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Mohammed V University, Morocco, is the Director of the Mediterranean and the Islamic World laboratory and was Director of the journal Hespéris-Tamuda between 2009 and 2014. He is also a member of the following; Scientific Committee of La Bibliothique Nationale du Maroc, the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRST) in Rabat, the editorial board for the Al-Manahel journal since 2008, the international journal IRCICA in Istanbul, the editorial board of the journals Tabayyun and Omran,, the consultative committee for the Ottoman Historians Encyclopedia and the Moroccan Association for Historical Research. 


In addition to supervising a number of university level theses and dissertations related to the Mediterranean in the Ottoman Era, he co-authored the following books: History of Morocco: Updating and Synthesizing and The Chronology of Moroccan History. He also edited and published History of the Saadiyah State for an unknown historian, The Journey of the Minister to Ransom the captive for al-Ghassani, and Letters on Jews for Abdul Karim al-Maghili. He supervised a series of co-authored books pertaining to the Maghreb History and the Mediterranean world during the Ottoman era, amongst them being The Maghreb between Local and Mediterranean Archives and Transmission of Ideas and Techniques in the Maghreb and the Mediterranean, Networks in the Maghreb and the Mediterranean and Travelling in the Islamic world: Communication and Modernization. His publications also include The Ottoman State: Institutions, Economics and Culture, and Morocco and Sublime Porte between the mid-16th century and the end of the 18th century. He devoted most of his articles to illustrating historical and travel productions in the Ottoman state and Morocco, and to issues pertaining to the Ottoman Archives.
