Outreach Arabic Training
Last summer, Alaa Elgibali, director of the LC, conducted a series of training sessions for the faculty, department chairs and deans at the Defense Language Institute in California, the largest school for AFL in the world. The training focused on reaching higher proficiency level, designing curriculum and developing teaching material for Arabic.
Training for Career
The LC assists the prospective graduates of the DI in enhancing their potential to compete in the job market. To this end Alaa Elgibali delivered two intensive sessions to these graduates, with focus on resume organization and writing, strategies for securing job interviews, due diligence prior to and follow up post interviews. The attendees found the sessions to be most useful in launching their prospective careers.
The Film-making and Podcast Club
This is a student-run club designed to motivate students to write in English, guided by LC's English instructor James Fitzgibbon. First they conceive a story, the best being made into a Podcast, mixing narration with music and sound effects. This is the initial step in the film-making process, whereby students design and write the script, organize scenes and contribute to the finished film by acting and participating in the post-production process.
